TRAFFIC ALERT -FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 22, 2018

New Traffic Pattern Begins Thursday on U.S. 1 at U.S. 322 for Reconstruction in Concord Township, Delaware County

King of Prussia, PA - Motorists on U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) and U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) in Concord Township, Delaware County will encounter lane closures on Thursday, October 25, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM as crews set up a new traffic pattern at the intersection of the two highways, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The new pattern will eliminate the right turn merge lane on northbound U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) at the intersection, requiring motorists heading to eastbound U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) to turn right from the right travel lane at the traffic signal. The new pattern will be in place through summer 2020 as the intersection is reconstructed.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur on northbound U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) approaching U.S. 322.

In addition, motorists using eastbound and westbound U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) will find periodic flagger-controlled, single lane conditions Mondays through Thursdays, from 9:00 PM to 3:00 PM at various work areas along the 2.6-mile construction zone.

During the daytime and nighttime operations, crews on the $62.2 million project are paving two new eastbound lanes, completing excavation for widening in several areas, and reconstructing the eastbound side of several intersections.
PennDOT began construction in spring 2017 on the first-of-two mainline projects to widen and reconstruct a 6.7-mile section of U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) from U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) to just east of Route 452 (Market Street) in Concord, Bethel and Upper Chichester townships, Delaware County. Work on the first mainline section of U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) is scheduled to be completed in late 2020.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on the project which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.
Engineering design is advancing for the widening and reconstruction of the eastern section (Section 102) of the highway from just east of Clayton Park Drive to just east of Route 452 (Market Street). Construction on this section is expected to start in 2020.

An additional contract to replace the U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) bridge over the CSX railroad and Bethel Road as well as improvements to the adjacent Bethel Road Interchange is under design.
